Description

This colossal clock displays every aspect that represents the character of a Black Forest Farmhouse. The focus of this clock is on specific traditional Black Forest farm vocations. The huge figurine on the clock depicts a farmer taking a break from hay harvesting while leaning on his scythe. The nearly full hay cart next to him indicates that he’s nearly finished with his day’s labor. A shingle rack stands a little further on, in front of the little chapel. This is a type of roof shingle production workbench. (Unfortunately, the photos do not show this function.) Farmers chopped shingles to make money during the hard winter months when there was no activity in the fields. The building of the clock itself is a key aspect of this clock. Unlike previous clock models, this one contains individual outhouses that are fully functional buildings. These annexes are usually only hinted at by a little shack attached to the side of a clock. The church on the right and the storage shed on the left are both complete structures in this example. As a result, one stunning clock depicts a whole Black Forest farm ensemble, including the main farmhouse, annexes, and its surroundings. Because the road to the neighboring town church was too far away or frequently impassable during the winter snows, many Black Forest farmhouses had their own chapel. The young boy figure to the left of the clock, in front of the small shed, is the source of the clock’s name. He’s got a baby goat on his back. The clock house itself is a representation of Black Forest’s construction skills. A wooden frame structure with a conventional shingle roof. Farm steads in the Black Forest are frequently lonely structures scattered throughout the mountainous land. The bell tower with the fire bell on the roof is a distinguishing feature of such a farmhouse. These bells could be used to summon assistance in an emergency. Animals are an important aspect of farm life; this clock depicts a variety of domestic animals, such as a cat and a German Shepherd dog, as well as conventional agricultural animals, such as a cow.
