I love this clock. It’s pure mechanics, no electricity, and no false gears.

It is your responsibility to adjust the pendulum and reset the weight to keep accurate time. I also fiddle with the angle of the clock against the wall to get a stable sweep of the pendulum. The challenge is what makes it interesting.

Mount it in a place that is easy to view from the side as well so you can view all the moving parts.

I sleep about 20 feet away and the bell does not disturb me.

I wanted a clock for my bedroom and saw this. Easy-to-use and quiet. I love the “ding” at the top of the hour. Very happy.

  3. Craig

This is a great purchase for the price and quality, keeps good time once adjusted, hard to find a reasonably priced mechanical clock anymore, clock is small width wise ,but must mount high to get the full days of running once the chain is pulled and winds down. Was exactly what I was looking for and I am very pleased with its purchase, just wish I could afford a big grandfather clock too.

I purchased one for myself and it has been running for probably a year. We just purchased another one as a wedding gift. I extremely pleased with the weight driven clock. It can take a lot of time to adjust it to keep perfect time. It’s a simple screw adjustment at the bottom. It works best to adjust it once a week, rather than daily.

  5. Alex Beal

If you’ve never owned a weight driven pendulum clock before, it’s important to know that getting them to run accurately takes some work. Don’t be surprised if it’s off by 10 minutes per week to start. The clock must be tuned, which consists of keeping track of how fast or slow it is and turning a screw at the bottom of the pendulum to adjust how fast it swings. Once tuned, I’ve gotten mine too be within a couple of minutes per week. It’s not hard but it requires patience.

The clock advertises an 8 day movement, meaning the weight needs to be reset every 8 days. In practice, this would require hanging the clock very high on the wall. At a more reasonable height, I reset the weight every 4 to 5 days.

Be prepared to hear this clock. It ticks pretty loudly, but that’s just the reality of these types of mechanisms. I think it’s kind of soothing, but I know not everyone agrees.

I like the chime and it’s nice to see this feature at this price point. I find it helps me keep track of how fast time is passing while I work.

My one complaint is that I spent a week noticing that the clock kept getting out of beat and I couldn’t figure out why. First, what does it mean for a clock to be “in beat”? It means that the ticks are evenly spaced. If you listen to a clock and the ticks are not evenly spaced, the clock is out of beat and the clock is at risk of spontaneously stopping. Usually the cause is that the clock isn’t level. If you think for a moment, it makes sense that a clock that’s regulated by a pendulum must be perfectly level. With this clock, the issue was something different. It turns out that when starting the pendulum, if you draw it too far to either side, it pushes the escapement arm into an unlevel configuration. The way to fix this is to draw the pendulum to the other side far enough that the arm is pushed back into a level position again. This makes starting the pendulum a bit of a fiddly process. You have to make sure not to draw the pendulum too far to either side. This is pretty hard to explain in text, but one you get the clock and start playing with it, you’ll see what I mean.

Other than that, I really like this clock. Just be aware running one of these clocks is a low key hobby. If you’re into that, it’s a great purchase.

  6. Courtney

It’s accurate and I like the way it looks. It is made of real brass and not some knock off metal. I also like how it is made by Hermle. It’s some thing I could see lasting for several generations.

  7. Luca

This clock is everything I expected it to be. It is built with a brass frame, as are most of the works. Nothing shoddy about the materials or construction. It took a few days to calibrate the pendulum to get the time right, but now it is keeping rather accurate time. Hanging it was easy, and getting it going, once hung, took almost no time at all.
A superb clock, attractive, functional, and no absurd electronics to go haywire. I recommend this strongly.

  8. David Pate

I love it. I collect all kinds of clocks and this one is the 8th addition to my collection. It is sitting in my kitchen still keeping time as i like it to. The bell is perfect for how much sound it makes. Loud enough to fill silence in but quiet enough to not stress about how loud it is.

  9. CDAgirl

I love this clock! I bought it for a replacement skeleton clock I bought years ago due to it breaking and the husband failing to get it fixed for my birthday and losing the pieces in the mean time … sigh anyway, this clock is exactly what I was wanting. The inner working gears peek out and can be viewed from the sides and the front.

I love the black highlights, it gives the design a one up to just brass coloring. It keeps time well and the chime is as expected with a brass bell (tho, my pups aren’t thrilled)…it keeps them on their paws (toes)!

In short, it’s a beautiful little skeleton clock and I recommend it if your looking to purchase one.

I bought this to replace a similar clock taht disappeared when moving. This one is better. It issturdy and really beautiful. I love it!

  11. seaborne

I’ve wanted one of these charming little clocks for years. I finally bit the bullet and bought one…I adore it.

It was a piece of cake to hang and get going right out of the box, the little chime is soft and melodic, and I happen to find the quiet ticking soothing.

It’s beautifully made, as you would expect, and kept good time right from the start. Since it’s hand-wound/weight-driven (and not quartz), this is impressive. It did lose a few minutes during the first week, but that’s normal and was very easily adjusted per the clear instructions that come with the clock.

If you decide to get one, realize the clock itself is small. However, the chain that drives the clock is very long, which requires you to choose a hanging spot that’s both high enough that the chain doesn’t hit the ground and is also out of the way of small kids and pets. Mine is hanging about 7’ off the ground and even with that the chain gets within a foot of the floor!

Unusual, old-school, aesthetically pleasing, and well-made…what’s not to like? Wholly recommended.

I’ve always wanted a mechanical clock since I was a child. I’ve looked at grandfather clocks on and off over my adult life but have never wanted to spend the money on one. I stumbled across this clock while I was looking for a new wall clock to put in my man cave and decided that if I was ever going to get a mechanical clock then this will be the one. I really like the look, feel and sound of it. It is very solid and except for the porcelain face is all metal. It did take me about a month of tinkering with it to get the time keeping very close to accurate. I got it to about 15 seconds a week slow which is close enough for me. The tick tock is fairly loud when compared to regular cheap wall clocks. At first the tick tock bothered me when I was watching movies or TV so I would stop the clock while watching TV. After a few months I don’t even notice the tick tock anymore while watching TV so I don’t stop it anymore. At first it was hard to see where the hands was on the clock from my chair but also after a few months I can now see where they are at. It is a very nice clock. It just takes some time to set and get used to.

  13. Sal

I thought the weight was plastic filled with something heavy, based on the images, but no, it’s some sort of solid metal, like cast iron, painted black, so nicer that I had thought. It’s not a very big clock, but the chain is long, (so it doesn’t have to be ‘recharged’ as often), so keep that in mind. Where I installed it, a bit of it sits on the floor when it’s fully pulled.

  14. Adam Kocian

I was looking for a nice clock for my living room. I already have a mechanical Hermle wall clock in the formal dining room and I have been more than happy with that one. Hermle is a great brand, made in Germany, great design, and always top quality. I love the design too. Seems well made in every detail!

HERMLE FAQ

A Hermle clock is a meticulously crafted timepiece that embodies the rich heritage of clockmaking in Germany. Founded in 1922, Hermle has become synonymous with quality and precision. Their range includes various types of clocks, such as wall clocks, grandfather clocks, and cuckoo clocks, all designed to add elegance and style to any home. The attention to detail and craftsmanship is what sets Hermle clocks apart, making them a beloved choice for clock enthusiasts worldwide.

Hermle clocks feature a variety of movements, including traditional mechanical and modern quartz movement options. The mechanical movements provide a classic charm, often requiring winding every 8 days, while the quartz movement offers hassle-free operation with battery power. This versatility allows customers to choose a clock that best fits their lifestyle and preferences.

To fix a clock that is off by an hour, start by moving the hour hand to the time it is currently striking. This initial adjustment allows the clock to synchronize accurately as you wait for the hour to pass. Once the hour has elapsed, proceed to adjust the minute hand, ensuring it does not touch the hour hand during the process. Position the minute hand to reflect the correct time, completing the adjustment and restoring the clock to its proper functionality. This method effectively aligns both hands, ensuring your clock keeps accurate time once again.

The safest way to move a clock is to keep it upright whenever possible. If you can maintain this position, you only need to remove the weights and tie up the chains for secure transportation. However, if laying the clock down is necessary, additional precautions are required. Start by carefully removing the weights, followed by securing the chains to prevent tangling. Next, stabilize the chime rods with tape or foam to protect them during the move. Once these steps are complete, it is advisable to reinforce the glass by applying tape in an “X” pattern and stuffing the empty cavity at the bottom of the clock with a blanket. These measures will help ensure that your clock arrives at its new location safely and without damage.
